For PMSM and PM-BLDCM, the permanent magnets are always the most important components. Commonly, it is installed on the rotor, that is the inner rotor. The usual structures of rotor are as following three types. Among them, the first part is rotor core, the second is rotation shaft, and the third is permanent magnet.
A: There are arc permanent magnets on the outside of rotor core;
B: The neodymium block magnets are inserted in the rotor core;
In the above two structures, there are relative thick ring, which is commonly made of non-magnetic stainless steel, aluminum or glass tape, on the rotor to avoid toss out of permanent magnets by centrifugal force when the machine is running in high speed.
C: There is an undivided bonded neodymium ring motor magnets cover on the rotor, which is suitable for small-sized and low-efficient BLDCM with great manufacturability.
The surface-type rotor has two magnetic structure, namely, convex-type and embedded type. In this rotor, the permanent magnets are always arc shape with diameter magnetized direction.
With the development of technology, there are new and popular motor with special permanent magnets structures nowadays, such as Halbach Motor, Hybrid Excited Motor, TFPM and so on.
