Recently, a research published on Applied Physics Letters, an international magazine, indicates that researchers from Monash University in Australia have developed a special type of magnetic materials , which can realize extraordinary self-regulating heating effect. These magnetic materials inspire scientists to develop new high temperature therapy for cancer.
Scientists believe that temperature that is “tolerated” by healthy cells can be used to destroy cancer cells. However, using magnetic particles as a new method possibly can be imported into tissues and kill cancer cells through heating. But this new technology is far from being used as a standardized process.
One hindrance in the development of this heating technology is scarcity of magnetic particles’ thermal capacity. Nonetheless, in the study, researchers find out a new type of materials, which not only can be heated in a short time, but can block increase of self heat quickly.
Besides, the new magnetic materials can reach temperature under which cancer cells can be killed, but they will not bring influence on functions of normal cells. Currently, researchers also study magnetic refrigeration materials, which attract much attention of other researchers. But these materials will be limited by Curie temperature.
